Link’s Values Set Us Apart: Reliable, Collaborative, and Responsive

Link's Values

At Link Manufacturing, we believe doing the right thing in every situation always pays off. It’s what creates long lasting relationships, which are the cornerstone of success, for Link and our business partners. Throughout Link’s long history we have been guided by two principals: trustworthiness and dependability.  These principals have always been part of our DNA and is what drives us to outperform for our coworkers and our customers. Today, we define these guiding principles as three core values: Reliability, Collaboration, and Responsive. What’s unique about Link’s values is they weren’t created in isolation around a conference table – they stem from what our customers have told us they regard as most important about working with Link. We incorporate these…

Driven to Outperform for Customers and Employees in 2018

As many of you know, Denny Michels retired at the end of 2017 and I took on the role of president at Link Manufacturing beginning January 1st. I want to take a moment today to reflect on some of the key achievements we accomplished in 2017, and what’s in store for Link in the year ahead as we continue our focus on being driven to outperform for our customers and our employees. Our 2017 Milestones We’re all proud of the fact that Link received recognition as an elite supplier to one of the major OEM truck manufacturers for the second year in a row. This recognition reaffirms the importance of our customer-focused culture and ability to perform at such a…

Cat’s Eye Tire Pressure Monitoring System Is Just Good Business

Cat's Eye Tire Pressure Monitoring System Blog

As we head into the new year, drivers and fleet owners are analyzing expenses and looking for opportunities to cut costs and operate more efficiently. Three of the biggest expenses they face are insurance, fuel and tires. While we can’t help with insurance premiums, installing the Cat’s Eye tire pressure monitoring system helps improve fuel efficiency and improve tire life. With an expected ROI of 3-6 months, installing one now can help take pressure off your budget in 2018. Designed for any vehicle that runs dual wheel combinations with a 60 PSI rating or higher (from personal RVs to one-ton and Class 8 trucks), the Cat’s Eye not only lets drivers know with just a glance if tires are properly…

Surpassing Expectations with a Commitment to Safety and Product Quality

Both coworker safety and product quality are deeply imbedded in the culture at Link. Our pledge is to provide great products; superior service and support; outstanding product quality, and consistent on time delivery to every customer. This can only be accomplished through core values and guiding principles where safety and product quality play a prominent role. Safety and Product Quality Always At The Forefront Among our guiding principles is that we treat each other with respect, honesty and fairness and that we assure safety first in all activities. We owe that to our customers, ourselves, our coworkers and our families. Our families may not always understand our business or what we do, but what they do understand is that their…

Driven to Outperform: Building a Customer-Focused Culture at Link

I’m not sure whether our customer-centric culture started on purpose or just evolved over a period of time. While I’d like to take credit for the idea and its evolution, the culture at Link is undoubtedly the result of a tremendous effort from many players on our team. When you think about our rural geographic location, it should come as no surprise that our basic value system reflects our Midwestern culture, where our word is our bond and where we take our responsibilities seriously.  We believe this approach is respected and appreciated around the world, whether we’re doing business in Boston, Berlin or Beijing. Total Quality Management: A Commitment to Our Customers Back in the early 1990s I learned about…

Being Thankful: A Look Back at Link’s 2015 Successes

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. It not only provides us an opportunity to gather with family and friends, but to also reflect upon everything we have to be thankful for. At Link Manufacturing, this includes great customers and tremendous employees. With this sense of gratitude, we are able to give back. I’m proud to help lead a company and employees who do so much good in our communities. So before we all dig into the turkey, I wanted to pause and reflect on some of the items from the past year we at Link have to be thankful for: A Strong Spirit of Giving at Link I’m proud of Link’s longstanding commitment of supporting our local communities. Earlier…

Honoring our Veterans Who Serve on the Frontlines and America’s Production Lines

Today is a very important day at Link Manufacturing and across the country: Veterans Day. If you haven’t stopped yet to thank a veteran, or taken a moment to reflect upon their sacrifice and the freedoms they provide, I hope you will. Veterans Day hits close to home for many of us. My father was a Staff Sergeant in WWII and was wounded in combat, leaving him hospitalized for more than 12 months. Watching as he carried the effects of his injuries throughout his life left a deep and lasting impression on me. Like many, he was stoic and reserved about his service and didn’t expect thanks or recognition for doing his job. It’s that type of humility and sacrifice…

Company Culture and the Work Ethic of Millennials

Perceptions are interesting. They shape our decision-making. Sometimes they’re right on target. Other times, not so much. The challenge is not letting generalizations about our co-workers cloud our perception of their value. This is even more important when you’re in the role of a leader. I have attended several local leadership events recently where the discussion focused on attracting quality candidates that will enable our businesses to be more successful. We talked about the difficulty in finding and retaining good people. In nearly every one of these events, there were comments made about the work ethic of the younger generation. “They think differently”…“They have had things handed to them”…“They want things now… and aren’t willing to work for them.” You’ve…

Better Customer Service Through a New Website

Whether you realized it or not, you’re reading this post on the new Link website. When we started the redesign, our goals were: to provide additional content so we could better engage with you, our customers; and to use responsive design so we can communicate better on mobile devices. Hopefully we’ve added some features, benefits, information and functionality (like a blog, for instance) that make this a better overall experience than our previous site. However, if any of you have ever gone through this effort, you know it can be an arduous process. The objectives (as well as the timeline) you set when you initiate the project often shift – sometimes slightly, sometimes dramatically – based on customer input, management input,…

What’s In A Tagline

We recently went through the process of creating a new tagline for Link as part of a renewed branding effort. Like any good tagline, we wanted a short statement that would quickly and memorably describe the unique qualities of Link and serve as a unifying consistent theme – connecting all of our marketing and branding tools (stories; press releases; brochures; websites; presentations; etc.) But, we wrestled with the questions, “What makes Link distinctive?” and “Why do our customers do business with Link?” The first step we took was to survey our Link employees and a number of our OE and Aftermarket customers to see how people viewed us. The responses were varied but there were some recurring themes… our people care about…
