Andrew Waterman
Engineering, SDSU

My internship here at Link Manufacturing has given me the opportunity to see first-hand what sorts of challenges product engineers face on a daily basis. I originally began my career as a designer at Link, which then sparked my interest to return to college and continue my education. Though continuing my education has been very rewarding so far, I have really missed the work environment. So, being able to come back as an intern has been a great pleasure. During my internship, I have been able to develop my knowledge on Link products and overall engineering by working directly with product engineers.

Melanie Kuipers
Accounting, Dordt College

“My junior year at Dordt College, I had the exciting opportunity to join the team at Link Manufacturing as an accounting intern. I really didn’t know what to expect, what the atmosphere would be like, or what my coworkers would be like. Once I started, I was surprised at how welcoming the entire staff was, and how fast I immediately felt like a member of the team. The experience went above and beyond my expectations, and what I learned while there I have carried with me to my current job. I am very glad that I took the opportunity to intern with Link.”

Josh Van Gorp
Engineering, Dordt College

“My summer at Link has been a valuable experience. I have received a good introduction to the responsibilities of an engineer in a manufacturing setting. My coworkers are always doing their best to give me relevant projects to further my learning in the workplace. Link has also equipped me with the proper tools I need to succeed as an intern in their work environment. Link provides flexible work environment and wants their interns to learn in many different aspects of the manufacturing process.  I believe that Link has taught me valuable skills that will help me wherever I end up in my career.”

Matthew Roghair
Engineering, Dordt College

My two-year internship with Link provided valuable exposure to both the product engineering department and in the engineering test lab. From the very start I felt like a valued employee. I was included in meetings and project discussions, as well as being trained to enhance my skillset. I aided engineers in designing, setting up, and interpreting product tests, and I received hands on experience in setting up the tests themselves, along with organizing and interpreting the test data.

One of the most valuable aspects of my internship was Link’s flexibility. As an engineering student, I could balance schoolwork and have a part time job where I could still learn useful skills to aid me in my career. Link has given me the chance to work in a professional environment, in a position where I can take on responsibility but with the freedom to make mistakes and learn from the team around me.

Tayler Hoekstra
Engineering, Dordt College

“I have been with Link for a little more than a year now, and thus far, it has been quite an enjoyable experience. Getting the feel for what a manufacturing company deals with on a regular basis is, to me, valuable information for possible jobs I may have in the future. The employees at Link have been more than welcoming to me, and those who have been in charge of my internship here have been very invested in me. They seek to give me more than just experience in the Quality department, but also an understanding of the many different jobs, processes, and the day-to-day challenges that make Link the company that it is. This is what I appreciate most about my internship here at Link: the investment that those around me put into my time here. They do not see me simply as summer help, but as a person with whom they can share their knowledge and help grow my understanding of what it means to work as a team.”
